Pope Francis celebrated Mass on October 3rd, Saturday afternoon, in the crypt of the Basilica of Assisi. A very short and sober celebration, in front of just twenty people, and without a homily. The Pope then proceeded to sign the encyclical "Fratelli Tutti", the text of which was made public on Sunday, October 4.
"Fratelli tutti" is the name of this new encyclical of Pope Francis, the third of his pontificate after Lumen Fidei in 2013 and Laudato Si' in 2015. This title refers to the Admonitions of St. Francis (6, 1: FF 155): "Let us consider, all brothers, the Good Shepherd: to save his sheep, he suffered the Passion and the Cross".
The Holy Father therefore chose a very solemn and significant place to sign this text: Assisi, the city of the ''Poverello'' of which he took the name of Pope, and which preached this universal, "cosmic" fraternity, uniting all the creatures of God, the only father of all.
